Assembly Ships were used by the Liberator B-24 bomber groups of the US 8th Air Force’s 2nd Air Division, whose airfields were located around Norwich during World War Two. They were brightly colored and highly decorated so they could be seen easily. The distinct and creative markings on each Assembly Ship helped pilots and crews recognize their specific groups & positions in the air.
